About
Jack Heavenor is a dynamic presence in Glasgow's grassroots jazz scene, known for his charismatic performances and deep connection to the Great American Songbook. His rich, expressive voice and engaging stage presence transport audiences to the golden age of swing, drawing inspiration from legends like Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and Tony Bennett. Whether leading a quartet or hosting vibrant jazz sessions, Jack offers authentic and accessible experiences for both jazz aficionados and newcomers.
In 2016, a transformative year in Shanghai immersed Jack in the city's vibrant jazz culture. As a guest vocalist at the House of Blues & Jazz, he honed his skills alongside world-class musicians, gaining invaluable experience in live improvisation and stagecraft. This international exposure deepened his appreciation for jazz's global reach and enriched his musical perspective.
From April to November 2023, Jack expanded his horizons by volunteering with HEART Global on their music outreach tour in Japan. Collaborating with an international cast, he traveled to regions including Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kagoshima, and Fukuoka. This initiative involved conducting workshops in schools and community centers, aiming to inspire and empower participants through music and performance. As a Cast Member, Jack coached individuals to deliver performance pieces, adapting his teaching strategies to overcome language barriers and cater to diverse learning styles. This experience not only broadened his teaching and coaching skills but also reinforced his commitment to using music as a universal language to connect and uplift communities.
Upon returning to Glasgow in late 2023, Jack resumed his active role in the local jazz community. He continues to host regular live jazz events, including a Thursday vocal jazz session at the Maverick Bar and a Sunday jazz afternoon at Bossa. These gatherings provide platforms for both emerging and seasoned musicians to collaborate and share their passion for jazz. Jack's versatility as a performer allows him to adapt to various musical settings, whether performing solo with high-quality backing tracks or leading live ensembles. His dynamic sets range from smooth ballads to high-energy swing numbers, captivating audiences across diverse venues.
Beyond performance, Jack is dedicated to making jazz accessible to all. He volunteers in care homes, bringing jazz and Rat Pack classics to residents to create joyful, nostalgic experiences for older audiences. This aligns with his broader vision of ensuring that the timeless appeal of jazz reaches people from all walks of life.
As he continues to evolve as an artist, Jack remains committed to expanding his reach, increasing performance opportunities, and further developing his craft as both a vocalist and educator. His dedication to swing, showmanship, and the transformative power of live music positions him as a leading figure in Glasgow's jazz renaissance.
